Nutrisystem vs Bistro MD – How Do They Compare?

Trying to compare Nutrisystem vs Bistro MD?
Wondering which one is the best choice for you?
Both diets are popular programs that deliver weight loss meals to your home.
However there are some differences between them that you should know.
While Nutrisystem has been around in various forms for over 40 years, Bistro MD is a bit newer to the game, and not as well known.
Both offer you a range of different program options as well as 5 or 7 day delivery choices.
And both have great track records of helping people lose weight in a healthy, balanced way.
So how do these 2 diets compare?
Here’s a rundown of what you should know before you decide:
Nutrisystem vs Bistro MD – Price Per Day
Nutrisystem has the advantage here, coming in much more affordable than Bistro MD.
It comes in starting around $9.99 a day for the basic plan and ranges up to $13.50 a day for the premium plan (called Uniquely Yours Max).
You can also save up to 40% using this discount link for our website visitors.
Bistro MD has one main plan – with different options (like how many meals you get per day, if you want snacks, if you want 5 or 7 days a week etc).
So the price does vary based on these things. You can also save on your first order with this link and get your first week for a huge discount with Free Shipping.
One thing I don’t like about Bistro MD is that (as of this writing) they’re not 100% clear with the pricing.
They give you a great first-week introductory price – but then obviously the price will go up the second week. And it’s hard to tell from the website how much the price will go up.
As of this writing, it looks like the main plan (for the first week) starts around $16.28 a day and goes up from there. It’s a bit cheaper if you just want lunches and dinners for 5 days a week. But that doesn’t really make it comparable to the Nutrisystem program which includes breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks – even in their Basic program.
So overall, Nutrisystem has an advantage cost-wise.
Nutrisystem vs Bistro MD – Meals

This is where you see one of the main differences between these two diets.
Nutrisystem has 2 types of meals. The first type are the ready-to-go meals that are packaged for portability.
These do not need to be refrigerated and you can easily take them with you on the go. These do not need to be refrigerated
The second type of meal would fall into the more gourmet type of meal.
This includes the fresh-frozen options, Restaurant Faves (based on popular Restaurant meals) and Hearty Inspirations – which are higher potein meals designed to keep you full for longer.
These do need refrigeration and tend to rank higher in terms of taste and dieter satisfaction.
The catch is that you only get these gourmet meal options on the Nutrisystem Uniquely Yours and Uniquely Yours Max plans (starting around $12.14 a day) – not on the Basic plan.

Some examples of Nutrisystem Ready-To-Go meals:

Lasagna with Meal Sauce
Hearty Beef Stew
Chicken Pot Pie
Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar
Cheese Tortellini
White Cheddar Popcorn
Fudge Brownie
Some examples of Nutrisystem Frozen Meals and Snacks are:
Roasted Turkey Medallions with Gravy and Mashed Potatoes
Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast
Black Bean Polenta Enchilada with White Meat Chicken
Thick Sliced French Toast
Chocolate Brownie Sundae
Ice Cream Sandwich
Tiramisu

Bistro MD doesn’t really have the ready-to-go meals (although they do have snacks that don’t need refigeration). Most of their meals are more on the gourmet side. They will require refrigeration and heating.
Some examples of Bistro MD meals are:

Hickory Smoked BBQ Beef with Yukon Gold Potatoes and Green Beans
Pork Tenderloin with Mushroom Marsala and Yukon Gold Potatoes
Grilled Salmon with Lemon Dijon Dressing with Seasoned Spinach and Wild Rice
Italian Chicken Sauasge with Peppers and Mushrooms
Roasted Corn and Scallop Chowder with Broccoli Florets

One thing I do like with Bistro MD is that do have a few more specialized meal programs – like their Gluten Free meal option (which is one of the only affordable gluten free meal delivery services you can find these days).
They also offer a Keto Flex program if you prefer a lower carb approach.
Nutrisystem vs Bistro MD – Support and Tracking
Nutrisystem seems to offer a bit more in terms of tracking and support than Bistro MD.
They have the free Numi app (the Nutrisystem companion app). This is a one-stop-shop so to speak. You can see all of the guides (eating out, adding in snacks, recipes etc) and also track your daily, weekly and monthly progress.
The Numi app can also give you customized advice to help you break through any weight loss plateaus you encounter.
Plus this diet includes 1-on-1 support with every meal plan, 7 days a week.
Bistro MD doesn’t offer this (although you do have an account and can contact them with questions anytime).
In general, it seems like Nutisystem is more of an overall comprehensive diet plan – with extra tools to help you track your progress etc.
And Bistro MD is more of a gourmet weight loss meal delivery service – with a focus on making customized meals for you. One isn’t better than another. It just comes down to what you prefer.

Other Differences:
Bistro MD delivers one week’s worth of meals at a time – Nutrisystem delivers a month’s worth of meals at a time. So with Bistro MD you’ll be receiving your order weekly and with Nutrisystem, only once a month.
With Nutrisystem you eat around 6 small meals per day. With Bistro MD you’ll be eating 3 larger meals – with the option of a snack as well if you choose.
Nutrisystem currently does offer more desserts and sweet options than Bistro MD.
Bistro MD doesn’t really offer desserts – although they have a few sweet based bars in their snacks options. Still, if you have a sweet tooth and can’t live without your desserts, you may prefer the Nutrisystem option.

Nutrisystem vs Bistro MD – Weight Loss Results
This is a tough one to call since it will also depend on factors like your adherence to the diet, your current weight, gender and activity level.

However both plans seem to tout a weight loss of about 1 – 3 pounds per week. One difference is that Nutrisystem has a special Jump-start plan (with their Uniquely Yours Max plan).
This is a specially designed first week of the diet that is geared towards helping you lose weight quickly. People have lost up to 5 pounds in their first week on this plan. However again, this is only offered on the Uniquely Yours Max plan.

Bottom Line?
So which diet is better when comparing Nutrisystem vs Bistro MD?
Well, in general, the Bistro MD plan offers larger meals (but less of them) that are more a bit more gourmet. There’s also a few more specialty meal options like gluten-free or keto flex.
Nutrisystem gives you a few more meals to eat per day – but they’re smaller. It’s also more affordable. And there is the option to do the Uniquely Yours plans which have higher-end meal options than the standard ready-to-go meals on the Basic plan.
It also gives you a few more tools (like the Numi app) that can help you track your progress and give you support.
So it really depends on what you’re looking for at the end of the day.
