How Does It Work and Is It Right For You?
Wondering how it works and what you get?
You came to the right place!
This post will go over what you need to know about the Nutrisystem Diabetic plan – called Nutrisystem D. And what it can do for you.
So you can decide if it’s right for you.
So let’s dive in:
What is the Nutrisystem Diabetic Plan?
This is especially important since losing weight will also help improve the diabetes and blood sugars in many cases (although please consult your doctor before starting any new diet or exercise regime as it might require a change in your insulin or medication needs).
The Nutrisystem D plan works very similarly to the standard Nutrisystem diet in that you get 4 weeks of diet food delivered to your home.
You eat around 6 times per day – 5 Nutrisystem meals and fruits and veggies that you an add in yourself.
There are 3 different programs to choose from – Nutrisystem D Basic, Nutrisystem D Core and Nutrisystem D Uniquely Yours. The plans run from $9 up to around $ 11 a day.
Nutrisystem D Plans – What’s the Difference?
Similar to the regular Nutrisystem diet plans, the Basic gives you pre-chosen, ready-to-go meals. The Core plan lets you customize your plan but only with the ready-to-go meals.
And the Uniquely Yours plan lets you customize your plan with both ready-to-go meals and gourmet frozen meals and snacks. Uniquely Yours is the most gourmet plan available – so if you want a higher grade of meals, this is the one to go with.
Nutrisystem Diabetic Plan Food
The diet meals focus on low-glycemic carbs which helps to release the glucose slowly into your bloodstream. This helps to keep down blood sugar spikes. Lean protein in the meals also helps to regular blood sugar and helps you feel fuller for longer.
Plus you’re eating smaller meals throughout the day instead of 2 or 3 large meals. This also helps to keep your blood sugars from spiking.
You also get unlimited support from certified Diabetes educators – so if you have any questions, you know you can always get help.
You can also view which meals are appropriate for Diabetics by going to the Nutrisystem menu here and looking at the meals individually. You’ll notice that they each have various symbols on them including if they are appropriate for a diabetic diet.
This diet does not treat or cure diabetes, and it is not a substitute for diabetes medications. Your doctor may need to adjust your medications due to changes in your diet, exercise or weight while on this program. You should definitely consult your doctor before starting this or any other diet plan.
While I’m no medical expert in this field, I do have several diabetics – both type 1 and type 2 in my family.
I know how important it is for a type 2 diabetic especially to lose weight as it usually will help the body to better control the blood sugars.
So this plan would definitely be an option for type 2 diabetics wanting to lose weight.
Type 1 diabetics don’t usually have as much of a need to lose weight – and they usually follow a bit more of a low carb diet than this one.
So I’m not sure if Nutrisystem D would be the best option for a type 1 diabetic trying to lose weight. It would really depend on how well their bodies can deal with carbs.
Overall the Nutrisystem Diabetic plan is really more for type 2 diabetics trying to lose weight. And you also have the online support of diabetes educators to help you through it.
Just make sure to consult your doctor as your medications or insulin dosage may have to be adjusted as you lose the weight.
