Frequently Asked Questions About Nutrisystem – FAQs
Got questions about the Nutrisystem diet? Looking for Nutrisystem questions and answers?
You’re not alone – Nutrisystem tends to change their diet slightly every year or so.
So it can be confusing since you may find old information out there – or reviews of meals that no longer exist.
This page will go over some of the most frequent questions about Nutrisystem that I hear (and that I had when I was doing the diet).
Hopefully this will help clear up some of the confusion:
#1 What Is Nutrisystem?
Nutrisystem is a popular diet plan that ships meals to your home. The diet emphasizes portion control alone with good carbohydrates and lean protein to help you feel fuller for longer.
The diet has been around for over 40 years so it has a great track record – with thousands of great weight loss success stories to it’s credit.
Most Nutrisystem meals are package for portability – meaning that you can take them with you and don’t have to refrigerate them. However a few years ago Nutrisystem introduced more gourmet fresh-frozen entrees for people wanting something a little more luxurious.
Most people also don’t realize that Nutrisystem meals have no trans fats and they don’t use any artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners.
For more on the Nutrisystem diet, see the article What is Nutrisystem and How Does It Work? here.
#2 What Options Do I Have?
Nutrisystem currently has 3 different plans to choose from: Basic, Core and Uniquely Yours. Plans vary based on the type of meals you get (ready-to-go vs frozen, gourmet options) and the ability to customize your meals.
There are also specialized plans for diabetics, men and vegetarian.
To see more about the 3 different Nutrisystem plan options see the article Nutrisystem Plans here.
#3 How Much Does Nutrisystem Cost?
This depends on the plan that you’re on. The Basic plan is the most affordable at around $9.82 per day. The Core plan is the next plan up at around $10.50 per day and the Uniquely Yours is the gourmet option at about $12.00 per day.
This is a lot less than a lot of different diet meal delivery programs and – apart from the cost of fruit and veggies that you add in yourself – that’s all you need to do that diet.
#4 How Many Times a Day Will I Be Eating?
With the Nutrisystem Diet you’ll be eating around 6 times per day, every 2 – 3 hours. That’s around 5 Nutrisystem meals and fruits and veggies you add in yourself for a snack.
#5 Can I Order Meals and Snacks On Their Own?
Yes you can – however you do save a significant amount if you order with a plan like the Core, Basic or Uniquely Yours options.
To order meals and snacks on their own, you go to the main Nutrisystem site, scroll down and under the My Account Tab, just click “A La Carte” to be taken to the store. From there you can order breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks, frozen entrees and even shakes.
#6 What Is Lean 13?
Lean 13 is a new promotion that Nutrisystem started this year, replacing their Fast5 promotion from last year. It’s really a quick start weight loss program specially designed to help you lose up to 13 pounds and 7 inches overall in your first month.
With Lean13, you get the Turbo Takeoff kit for your first week on the program. This includes:
- 7 days of specially selected breakfasts, lunches and dinners
- 7 TurboShakes packed with protein and probiotics to support digestive health and help bust belly bloat
- 7 NutriCrush bars to dampen food cravings – which can be intense the first week on a new diet
- A Specially designed Daily Tracker to help maximize your weight loss
Once you’re done your first week, you’ll move on to your Nutrisystem meal plan and Daily Tracker for the next three weeks.
#7 How Much Weight Can I Lose on Nutrisystem?
This really depends on a few factors like your adherence to the program, age, fitness level, gender (sorry ladies, we have it a bit tougher) and more.
However Nutrisystem has designed the Lean13 intro diet (which everyone gets with any of the 3 plans) to maximize and kick-start your weight loss.
More specifically, according to Nutrisystem you can expect to lose up to 13 pounds and 7 inches overall in your first month, and an avg. of 1-2 pounds per week after that.
These are pretty incredible results – and you don’t see a lot of diets actually making claims like this (ok, the fad diets do it, but not the ones where you eat actual food like Nutrisystem).
How did they come up with these results?
Well Nutrisystem tested the Lean 13 program. And in that study average weight loss was 11.6 lbs. and 8 inches from hips, waist, chest, thighs and arms in the first month.
#8 When Will I Get My Order?
Depending on where you live, your Nutrisystem food should arrive about 4 to 10 business days from when you place your order.
You can track your package at any time by using the shipping number sent with your order confirmation. Uniquely Yours orders containing frozen foods will be sent in two separate shipments: one containing shelf-stable foods, and the other containing frozen items, which can remain frozen for approximately 6-8 hours. You don’t need to be home to receive the order.
#9 How Do I Know What To Eat When?
This is super-easy. Nutrisystem color-codes and labels the different meals: breakfast (blue), lunch (orange), dinner (red) or snack (purple).
You also get your own personalized Daily Tracker with your food order, which outlines your meals for you and acts as your food diary. It also contains a Grocery Guide to tell you exactly which foods to use as your fresh grocery additions. So everything is laid out for you in the Tracker and Guide.
You can also use the online meal planner at numi.com or your mobile device to track what you eat each day if you’re more of a techie.
#10 Can I Drink Alcohol on the Nutrisystem Diet?
Really – you have to ask? Sorry but no. Of course, nobody is really going to stop you from having a glass of wine in the evening. But if you want to maximize your weight loss results – especially in the first month – you should steer clear of alcohol. Sorry – but it’s not forever!
#11 What If I Have Questions?
You can contact someone at Nutrisystem via phone, online chat or email.
Just go to the main Nutrisystem website, scroll down and click on Contact Us where you can see a phone number, email or start an online chat.
I found it very easy to contact Nutrisystem and never had a problem when I needed a few minor questions answered.
You can even choose whom you talk to – whether you want to talk to weight loss counsellors, customer service or dietary counsellors.
#12 How Long Can I Expect to Be on the Diet?
This really depends on a number of factors including how much weight you want to lose, budget, schedule consideration and how faithfully you stick to the diet (which will determine how fast you lose weight).
I was on it for around 2 months before I started to slowly transition off. I spend another month transitioning off slowly – but that was because I didn’t want to regain any weight (which I didn’t).
But when I did go to transition, I also found that my appetite had changed and that I was more used to smaller meals several times a day – whether they were Nutrisystem meals or my own creations.
#13 I Prefer to Choose My Own Meals – Can I Do That With this Diet?
Yes! The Core and Uniquely Yours plans have a customizable option where you choose your own meals. You simply sign in and select the meals you want.
What’s great is that the Nutrisystem site lists each meal with the ingredients, nutritional facts and even dieter reviews of which meals rate highly – and which ones aren’t so hot.
#14 How Can I Find the Best Meals?
Again, this is super-easy. You just check out the Nutrisystem menu here. Click on the meal you’re interested in and you’ll see how it’s been rated from other diets, the Nutritional facts and ingredients.
What’s I really love however is that you can actual full reviews from other dieters on what the meal actually tastes like. So you have a much greater chance of finding meals you really enjoy.
#15 How Do I Transition Off the Program?
Nutrisystem has 4 different Success Transition and Maintenance Plans you can use to slowly get off the diet and maintain your weight loss. Plus once you’ve been on the diet you’ve also already started to retrain yourself in correct portion sizes, eating habits and more.
#16 Can I Switch Plans Mid-Diet?
Can you for example switch from the Basic to Uniquely Yours mid-diet? Yes! You can change plans at any time. There’s no extra fees or penalties to do this.
#17 What’s the Best Way To Save on the Nutrisystem Diet?
You can use the link below to save up to 40% off and get Free Shakes on your order. Plus going through the main site here ensures that you get the latest food and up-to-date information directly from Nutrisystem.
